Sicily is well known for great salt and olive oil and Ravida is a delicious example of both. The green oil smells like the pure Sicilian olives from which it is harvested and the family produces it exclusively from a handful of local olives. The estate is beautiful and the family’s inspiration is to produce an olive oil as in balance and reflective of the Sicilian terroir as a wine might be. Natalia Ravida, often known as the “Sicilian Olive Oil Lady,” oversees the operation, which also includes a cooking school. The olives are grown in the family’s “La Gurra Estate,” where the olive oil press is also located. Local olive varietals include Cerasuola, Biancolilla and Nocellara. Natalia also often travels to Japan to share her family’s delicious oil and teach cooking classes. Ravida also makes a wide assortment of salts in flavors such as fennel.
