The so-called “Rocca di Entella” or “Fortress of Entella,” is a cliff top in the territory of Contessa Entellina that takes its name from the town of Entella, destroyed by Frederick the II of Swabia, in the XIIIth century. For years the site of archeological excavations that can be traced back to a settlement of the Elymians, it has recently been designated as a Site of Community Importance and a Special Protection Area. The Entella Cave, approximately 700 meters long, is situated inside this mountainous area and it is managed by the Club Alpino Italiano, on behalf of the Sicilian Region.
