Terre Sicane is a territory rich of history, result of an incessant sequence of conquests and dominations in Sicily. A social and cultural context settled over time, amalgamating each different heritage and customs. It is an ancient Sicily survived in the course of time to give us the magic splendor of Mediterranean civilization. Archeological sites and ancient residential settlements show the presence of Elymians, Sicanians, Carthaginians, Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Arabs. Then Normans, Angevins and Aragonese have established a social system called “Feudo” that still existed at the time of the unification of Italy, suppressed with agrarian reform following the Second World War. A few kilometers away from the excavations of the Entella, one arrives at Sambuca di Sicilia with its labyrinth of Saracen alleys. At Santa Margherita Belice one can tour the Parco Tomasi di Lampedusa to visit the places mentioned in “The Leopard,” and then move on Montevago to view the damage caused by the earthquake of 1968, where the ruins of the old town are still standing in a surreal silence. Proceed to Sambuca di Sicilia to relaxing at Palazzo Panitteri, headquarters of Strada del Vino Terre Sicane Association, Iter Vitis cultural routes of the Council of Europe and Archaeological Museum.
